OLIVE BLOSSOM, CHERRY-FLAVORED ASSASSIN by Sean Danconia

Originally commissioned on behalf of King Features and launched at HOLD UP ART (Little Tokyo) in 2011, “Olive Blossom” was part of a program aimed at updating Olive Oyl—the iconic love interest of Popeye—with a new energy, style and aesthetic sensibility. The only change requested by King was to cover Olive’s body just a tad and as such, the “cherry flavor” design came into play as the scarf / Qi Pao / Kimono robe was extended across the chest (sparking new ideas). The original “Vanilla” version is also available to see and adorn your naked walls with. d(>_・ )

(Storyline) Picture it. Thimble Theater. Yokohama. 1949. Stationed in the Japans on behalf of the US Navy (post World War 2 era), Popeye (voiced by Robin Williams) falls madly in love ( ̄ε ̄@)♡ with Olive Blossom (Nancy Kwan)—the rebellious Yakuza daughter of a sushi chef (Wimpy-chan) and Hong Kong-born dim sum dumpling master (Mama Lu). While a technical violation of his current orders, Popeye pursues love on the open seas with Olive only to discover that the infamous wasabi-smuggler—Bluto (John Rhys-Davies)—has gotten there first. All seems lost in this Spinach-less land of the rising sun until Popeye discovers that Wasabi contains a similar yet more potent power-up than he could have ever imagined… (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ )
